Tour Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Luang Prabang, you will be greeted by your tour guide and transfer to the hotel. Luang Prabang, an enchanting town set between the Nam Khan and Mekong River, is filled with historic temples and colonial style buildings. Begin your tour with Wat Visoun (or Wat Wisunalat), the oldest temple in Luang Prabang which can be dated back to 1513 and contains a collection of antique wooden Buddhas. Visit the nearby Wat Aham or “The Monastery of opened heart”, famous for the ancient interior of its ordination hall and beautiful roof ornamentation. It was the former residence of Phra Sangkarat, the Supreme Monk of Buddhism in Laos. Now it is time to visit one of the most significant temples in Laos, Wat Xieng Thong, literally means “The Temple of Golden City”. Its origin can be dated back to 1560 when King Setthatilat built it on the bank of Mekong River near the juncture with the Nam Khan River. The entire temple complex with many ornate chapels and buildings represents the real gem of traditional Laotian architecture. From Wat Xieng Thong, take an opportunity to stroll down the main street (or Wat Street) of Luang Prabang. If time permits, stop at other fascinating temples such as Wat Siboun Heuang, Wat Si Moungkhoun, Wat Sop and Wat Sene. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Take your hearty breakfast at the hotel. Begin your day by taking an exhilarating boat trip up the Mekong River to visit Pak Ou Caves which are consisted of two caves, the lower Tham Ting and upper Tham Theug, overhanging on the steep limestone cliffs. These extraordinary caves are filled with thousands of Buddha statues of various styles, sizes and positions imaginable. Not far from the Pak Ou Caves, lies the local village of Ban Xang Hai, litterally means Jar or Pottery Making Village. Today the villagers no longer make potteries, but import instead. The main attraction of the village are whisky making, silk weaving and Sa paper making. Its fame arises from the production of local rice wine whisky - lao lao. At the village, you will see whisky in various bottles, containing creepy creatures such as snakes, scorpion, centipedes, or geckos, fully bathed in lao lao whisky. Continue onward to visit the weaving village of Ban Xang Khong, a village near Luang Prabang well known for its traditional handwoven cotton and silk, as well as production of the local sa (mulberry) paper.
