Leave from the hotel to visit four revered temples in Chiang Mai. All was constructed during the Lanna period. In the West of the city lies Wat Suan Dok built by King Kuena, the large white pagoda and small stupas contain the ashes of the Lanna Kings as well as the royalty. Then, Wat Phra Singh first built during the reign of Phra Chao Kham Fu (1328-1335). The temple’s compound includes the Lai Kam Chapel. Lying smack in the heart of the city (almost right in the middle of the square-walled city) is Wat Chedi Luang, the temple of a huge pagoda built King Saen Muang Ma in 1401. Originally it was 90 meters high; it is now a mere 40 meters as the result of an earthquake in 1545. A small building near the main entrance encloses the “Sao Intakin” (the city’s pillar).
Drive around the old city to explore the moat surrounding and the ruins of the city wall gates. Then visit the largest local market, Worarot Market, alive with its daily hustle and bustle. Exotic fresh fruits, preserved food, local delicacies, clothes galore, flowers and other knick knacks, all at reasonable prices.
Shortly walk across an iron bridge from the market crossing over the river for a Scorpion Tailed Boat Trip upstream the River Ping to enjoy beautiful scenery and local life along the riverside. Take a little break at Baan Din, an earthen house for a soft drink and desert before taking a boat back to pier. Transfer back to the hotel.
