The best value River side hotel by far, provided you remember to book a deluxe riverside room - still great value on our second visit, with friendly and efficient staff, though the restaurant isn't a good value as last year - still fair though, and the free shuttle boat trip to River City and Taksin is a real bonus - pity the early morning run has gone though. Our 9th floor room was absolutely excellent and our stay really enjoyable. We'll be back! |

We can't give an opinion about each hotel but the general impression is ok.
Off course hotels in Vientiane or Luang Prabang were better than hotels in others cities, but in any case they were the best available.
Only exception the resort in Vang Vieng ( Bungalow Thavonsouk ) had bungalows
of two qualities and we were put up not in the best one. |

Dear Ms Esperanza
Just a few comments on our Thailand part of the trip which was very interesting and memorable. The hotels were all very good. The Novotel at Hat Yai was exceptionally friendly and comfortable in all areas especially Reception (Charmaporn???) and meals etc.
The Wang Tai was very comfortable and helpful in arranging a day trip to Koi Samui which was far too short.
The Sand Inn Hua Hin was very clean and friendly but the third floor was a bit hard going in with the bags but we did receive help on the way out. It is well located in a lively area within easy reach of everything.
The train arrangements prepared by you were all in order and there were no problems arranging other sectors at the train stations. Generally the train traveling was very good but it was difficult getting on and off (mainly due to my heavy suitcase) and also they did not run on time but you met some interesting people whilst waiting.
Unfortunately the train line north of Hat Yai was washed away (we were on it the previous day) which meant that there was no train available on our last sector between Hat Yai and Sungai Kolock however with the help of the locals they directed us over to a mini van company and we were able to be transported to the border and walk across.
The Thai side of the border had no footpath making walking on the road a little difficult and on the Malaysian it was 30 cm under water necessitating removal of shoes etc, no taxis due to the floods but the Transnasional coach was there to take us to Kota Bharu.
As I said a very interesting trip but when we return to the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket in June for 7 nights (my wife?s 80th birthday around 17th June) we will also hire a car 1.8 ltr Toyota for about 10 days and visit other areas in Southern Thailand. I see it is off your list due to the Tsunamai perhaps it may have changed?
If you have any suggestions we would be pleased to hear from you but it?s gotta include the Laguna!
