Why Muang Kulaypan? Chaochom Manda Khian, Royal Consort to King Mongkut (Rama IV) played the role of Inao in the dance drama traditionally performed only by women in the Royal Court. Inao is the hero of a Javanese story told a long time ago (since the Ayudthaya period). This tale was rewritten into a Thai version by King Rama II of the Ratanakosin province. It is a tradition for all kings of the Chakri Dynasty to give a sword to newborn sons at birth. Thus, King Rama IV did so to one of this children named His Royal Highness Kromapra Naradhip Prapanpong but gave him a dagger or Kris instead and said it was the Kris for the son of Inao. The architect of the hotel chose the name as he is intimately related to this well-known lover story, being the great-grand-son of the son of the player of the role Inao.
