Transportation to Pattaya

Pattaya is about 147 km away from Bangkok and it takes about a 3-hour drive along Sukhumvit Highway via Bang Na, Bang Pakong, Chon Buri and Sri Racha.

Air-conditioned and non-air conditioned coaches regularly leave from the Eastern Bus Terminal near Soi 63 on Sukhumvit Road; locally this terminal is called "Ekamai Bus Terminal". Officially, the bus leaves every 30 minutes, but some rounds might be delayed due to inadequate number of passengers. The bus fare is 77 Baht per person only for air-conditioned bus which is much better off than the non-A/C one. Unfortunately, there is no official website for the Buses in Thailand - so if you are interested to get more information on this route, the Ekamai Bus Teminal phone number is: (662) 391-2504.

Direct buses from Don Muang Airport to Pattaya are operated daily by Thai International, however, there are only 3 departures time, i.e. 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. (noon) and 07:00 p.m. The fare is around 300 Baht per person.

The State Railway of Thailand offers daily train services departing Bangkok's Hualumpong Station at 07:00 a.m. and arrive in Pattaya at 10:45 a.m. On return the train departs Pattaya at 02:50 p.m. and arrive Bangkok at 6:35 p.m. No advance ticketing is available by the State Railway of Thailand, so passengers who wish to travel to/from Pattaya by train have to purchase the ticket on the travel dates. Click here for the train ticketing service in Thailand.

There are also joined transportation run by travel agent between Bangkok and Pattaya. The vehicles are mostly the 9-seater air-conditioned van and they pick the passengers up at different hotels in Bangkok downtown and then drop off at the hotels in Pattaya that the passengers stay and vice versa. It is quite convenient in the sense that you make only one connection from your hotel in Bangkok to your hotel in Pattaya without having to load and unload your luggage 2-3 times; however, you have to be aware that these vans pick their passengers up at the different hotels in Bangkok before leaving to Pattaya so it is hard for them to be punctual. Advance reservation for this type of transportation is necessary. You can find more information about this service at transfer service to Pattaya.

For those who wish to travel with more comfort, a private limousine, car or van transfer with a driver is recommended. You can make advance reservation at car rental and driver to Pattaya.

For self-drive a car, there are several companies that offer this service. Several shops, hotels, and guesthouses may offer car, jeep and motorcycle rental with varied prices and conditions. You are advised to shop around and to ensure that the vehicle you rent is fully insured. Consulting the local tourism office for an updated list of good ones can be a good idea. As a foreigners, you will require an International Driving License. In case you wish to book the vehicle via the internet - you may find some useful sites at Pattaya Car Rental Guide with its base in USA and the rent starts from 790 Baht up per day for a car or jeep in Pattaya. In addition to Avis and Hertz, Budget Rent A Car also has its own fleet in Thailand and offers car rental service to this resort.
