Pulau Kapas
About 6 kilometers off the coast of Marang is Pulau Kapas. An island renowned for its clear waters, sandy white beaches and swaying palms, it is relatively isolated. Home to an infinite variety of hard and soft corals, the waters around the island abound with seashells, fish and turtles.

The island's laid back atmosphere is ideal for relaxation but the more adventurous will find it also a haven fro swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, boating and fishing. Primula Kapas Island Resort provides comfortable chalets.

How to get there - You can board a taxi or bus at Kuala Terengganu to the fishing village of Marang. From there, take a half hour's boat ride on Pulau Kapas.

Kelulut/ Rantau/Abang/ Tanjung Jara
Between Marang and Rantau Abang lies Pantai Kelulut. A tranquil strand ideal for swimming and sunbathing, any visitor to Kelulut will be easily captivated by its natural beauty and peacefulness. Accommodation may be found at the Semarak Marang Beach Cottage.

Located 60 kilometers south of Kuala Terengganu lies Rantau Abang, one of the only six beaches in the world where the Giant Leatherback turtles come to nest. Weighing more than 375 kilograms and measuring up to 2.5 meters in length, these gentle giants lumber ashore between May and September. To see the turtles up close, you can go to the hatchery or keep a vigil between midnight to dawn, when the turtles can be seen swimming ashore to lay their eggs. Visitors who want to spend some time at Rantau Abang can fin find quaint chalets nearby.

For timeless beauty and serenity, Tanjung Jara is an ideal beach resort to visit. Some 60 kilometers south of Kuala Terengganu, its golden beach is encircled by a tranquil fresh water lagoon.

More than a scenic retreat, Tanjung Jara is a delightful place for swimming, windsurfing, turtle watching, boating, sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Fishing trips and island-hopping tours to nearby islands can also be arranged. Even an exciting river safari up the Dungun River is available for the rugged and adventurous at heart.

You can get to Pantai Kelulut, Rantau Abang and Tanjung Jara by taxi or by catching the Dungun bound bus at Kuala Terengganu's central bus station.

Pulau Tenggol
Seventeen kilometers off the coast of Kuala Dungun lies the small rocky island of Pulau Tenggol. An island and naturalists, it possesses a variety of plants and animals, particularly reptiles.

The western part of the island-with its secluded white beaches backed by steeply forested cliffs- is a pleasant retreat fro swimming, diving, quiet stroll and lazing on the beach.

Basic chalet-type accommodation is available in Dungun, on the mainland.

How to get there - Take a bus or taxi from Kuala Terengganu to Dungun and then board a boat at the jetty to reach Pulau Tenggol.

At the southeastern end of Terengganu, near Kemaman, is the lovely beach of Teluk Marina. This sandy white stretch with its palm lined lagoons and aquamarine water is an irresistible place to go swimming or picnicking. Indeed, it is the ideal beach to get away from the congestion of urban living.
