|
CHAMPASAK is a small district of 38,000 people
on the western bank of the Mekong River. The
Angkor period ruins of Vat Phu Champasak lie 8km
south of the town. Cross by ferry from Tha Ban
Maung to Tha Ban Papin and continue by vehicle
to VAT PHOU CHAMPASAK, Khmer temple site is
spread over the lower slopes of Phu Pasak and
its name means Mountain Temple. The surviving
structures date from as early as the Chenla
Kingdom (6th to 8th centuries). Cross by ferry
from Tha Ban Papin back to Tha Ban Maung and
continue by vehicle to the village of BAN KHIAT
NGONG. Enjoy an ELEPHANT RIDE past wetlands and
villages, slowly ascending to the top of Phou
Asa mountain. Explore the hilltop towers and
enjoy the beautiful views over the surrounding
countryside before returning to the village. The
entire ride is approximately 1.5-2 hours. Return
back to Pakse. |

- The People's Democratic Republic
of Lao is located in the centre of
Indochina, sharing borders with
China to the north, Myanmar to the
north-west, Thailand to the west,
Cambodia to the south, and Vietnam
to the east.
- Laos enjoys a tropical climate
with two distinct seasons - the
rainy season from the beginning of
May to the end of September and dry
season from October through to
April.
- Lao language is the national
language. Other languages used are

- When entering a Wat (Temple) or
a private home it is customary to
remove one's shoes.

hospitality should not be refused.
- The head is considered the most
sacred part of the body and the
soles of the feet the least, one
should not touch a person's head nor
use one's foot to point at a person
or any object.
- Men and women rarely show
affection in public.
- Women are forbidden to touch a
Buddhist monk.
