TRANSPORTATION
Getting There & Away
 Air
Xi'an is one of the best connected cities in China, making it possible to fly to almost any major Chinese destination as well as abroad. China Northwest Airlines, one of the Big Six airlines in the country, China United Airlines and Chang'an Airlines' headquarters are all in Xi'an. All three airlines use Xianyang International Airport, 40 km from downtown Xi'an, to offer customers multiple international links to over 50 domestic cities and many international cities like Hong Kong, Macau, Fukuoka, Hiroshima and Nagoya.
 Bus
All cities have frequent bus services that are very cheap as some remote locations may only be reached this way. The most central long-distance bus station is opposite Xi'an's train station. If you wish to see the terracotta warriors and horses, buses no. 306, 307 are available at the train station, highly recommended for their cheap fares, speed, and frequency of runs per day.
 Train
The train adequately covers most of the country with good service and punctuality. Four different classes are available - Soft Seat and Soft Sleeper which are air conditioned and cushioned and Hard Seat and Hard Sleeper which are not but cheaper. There are direct trains from Xi'an to Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Lanzhou, Hefei, Qingdao, Shanghai, Taiyuan, Urumqi and Wuhan. Change at Chengdu if you are traveling to Chongqing and Kunming.
Getting Around
 To / From the Airport
China Northwest Airlines runs shuttle buses hourly from 5 am to 6 pm between the airport and its Xi'an booking centre, you can pick up a taxi or local bus to your hotel here. Don't arrive on a late-night flight, taxis into town will over charge you - possibly Y160 to Y180 on the meter. Watch out for your belongings if you plan to take a public bus, for more comfortable, use minibuses which run on the same routes. Local buses go to all the major sights in and around the city. Taxis are also abundant and reasonably cheap while bicycle hire is available at Renmin Dasha Gongyu and the Bell Tower Hotel, too.
