New Otani Chang Fu Gong Hotel was planed to construct under the proposal of government of Beijing City and Mr. Hiroshi Inayama, honorary president Nippon Steel Co., Ltd, (the chairman of Federation of Economic Organizations) in 1883, in order to promote the friendship between China and Japan, and to stimulate both economical and cultural exchange. The hotel was constructed by joint investment of the Tourist Company in Beijing and C.C.I. Co., Ltd. (established by the fund of the 47 companies in Japan, including Nippon Steel, Chouyou trade, Nittetsu Shoji, Ithochu). It is a five-star hotel managed by New Otani Group, the world famous hotel group in the world.
As for the name of the Hotel, chang is the first character used for the Great Wall, one of the most famous historical spots in China, and fu is the first character used for the Mt. Fuji, the most famous mountain in Japan. The hotel is named with the hopes that the friendship between China and Japan be more reliable and should last as long as the Great Wall and Mt. Fuji.
