Ko Dach and Phnom Penh
Code: CKD |
1 Day
Departure: Sun/Tue/Thu
|
Centred in the Mekong River, the small island
of Koh Dach preserves the rich traditions of authentic Cambodian
culture: Village women weave by hand delicate silks, while, just
down the orchard lane, monks wearing brilliant saffron robes
collect morning alms. Local village life here exemplifies a
beautiful simplicity.
Suited for all riders, including families,
our day-long Koh Dach bicycle tour begins when we pick you up
from your Phnom Penh hotel between 7-7:45 a.m. In our private
van, we’ll make a short transfer to the local ferry where, bikes
and all, we’ll cross the Mekong River.
Once on the island, we’ll take to bikes,
touring by dirt paths the island’s small communities and fruit
orchards. These orchard branches, heavy with ripe fruit, shade
much of our bike trail as we ride into the island communities.
Under elevated shophouses, we’ll stop shortly to see silk
weavers on looms create the supple fabric.
Continuing on further down the coastal roads,
the fruit orchards give way to vibrant vegetable farms. Reaching
a far edge of the island, we’ll navigate a sandy bank, which
quickly expands into a white, small beach. In the shade of river
huts, which are elevated over the Mekong River, we’ll lunch on
local specialties. There’s even an opportunity here for a
shallow swim or inner tube rental.
In the afternoon, we’ll cycle past historic
Khmer temples and the local school before returning to the ferry
pier. The last leg of our journey consists of an afternoon boat
ride lasting approximately 2 hours. Among the fishermen’s
longtails, our chartered boat meanders down the sparkling Mekong
waters and ports at the Royal Palace. From here, we’ll take the
van again back to your hotels. We’ll have you back to your hotel
around 5 p.m.
