Tour Itinerary

DAY 1:  VIENTIANE

Arrive in Vientiane, meet with the guide and transfer to the hotel. Take a sightseeing to Buddha Park or Xieng Khuan (literally means “the Spirit City”, an open air museum with large collection of Buddha statues, Hindu gods and various bizarre sculptures. Overnight in Vientiane.

DAY 2:  VIENTIANE (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Begin your day with excursion to Pha That Luang, a spectacular golden stupa, revered as one of the holiest monuments in Laos and served as a national symbol of sacrifice and unification. Onward journey to Ho Pha Keo, once a former Royal Temple, but today a religious museum containing beautiful Buddhist sculptures. Nearby visit Wat Si Saket, an oldest temple in its original form, famous for its cloistered walls with thousands of Buddha images collected through centuries. Drive through Vientiane’s wide boulevard and visit Patuxai, or “Victory Gate”, a monumental arch built in resemblance to the Arc de Tiomphe in Paris from a distant but decorated with Laotian arts; a great place on top to have a picturesque view of the city and to take photographs. Visit to Wat Si Muang and to the local market “Talat Sao”, where ethnic minorities sell their products. Overnight in Vientiane.

DAY 3:  VIENTIANE - LUANG PRABANG (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Flight north to Luang Prabang, once an ancient capital city of Lane Xang Kingdom or “Land of the Million Elephants”. Due to its well-preserved traditions and cultures, Luang Prabang had been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. Start your sightseeing with the visit to Wat Visoun, the oldest temple in Luang Prabang since 1513, famous for its spectacular “Watermelon” Stupa or That Mak Mo, highly revered by local Laotian people. Nearby visit Wat Aham or “Temple of the Opening Heart”, renowned for the classic Laos architecture and decoration and then to Wat Xieng Thong, or “Temple of the Golden City”, said to be the real gems of Laos monasteries and believed to be the most beautiful temple not only in Luang Prabang, but in Laos. Walk down the “wat street”, the main traditional road in Luang Prabang with many scenic temples on both sides. In the late afternoon, visit Mount Phousi for sunset. A magnificent view of the entire town and river can be seen on top of this 150 meter high mount, after you climb 328 steps from the entrance to the temple on its top.

DAY 4:  LUANG PRABANG (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning visit a local Laos market or “Talat Phousy”, where ethnic minorities sell their items. Continue with your excursion to Luang Prabang National Museum, once a former Royal Palace built by French for the last king of Laos; then visit Wat Mai, or “New Temple”, one of the most picturesque monasteries in Luang Prabang with its five-tiered roof and unique Laos architecture. Enjoy a remarkable boat trip along the Mekong River to the Pak Ou Caves, revered as a sacred Buddhist site, where thousands of Buddha statues of different sizes and positions are deposited inside the caves. Nearby visit the local ethnic village of Ban Xang Hai, famous for its production of Laos local rice whiskey called lao lao and another village of Ban Xang Khong, renowned for cotton and silk weaving on traditional handlooms. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

DAY 5:  LUANG PRABANG (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Take a trip to Kuang Si Waterfall where you can relax in the beautiful natural setting outside of Luang Prabang’s town. Rejuvenate yourself by swimming in the clear crystalline ponds amidst the tumbling waterfalls and surrounding green trees. Today you will also visit the ethnic local village of Ban Muang Khai and the Khmu Village of Ban Tha Pene. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

DAY 6:  LUANG PRABANG DEPARTURE (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. You are free at your own leisure for shopping or sightseeing. Transfer out to airport or continue to your trip to the other destination.

  • By plane: Internationally from/to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Phnom Penh, Siem reap,, Kuaal Lumpur, Kunming, and domestically from Luang Prabang, Luang Namtha, Pakse
  • By Road - 10 hours drive from/to Luang Prabang and 10 hours drive from/to Pakse
  • By Train - Take train to Nong Khai from Bangkok, Thailand and cross the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge to the border and drive to the city about 20 minutes.

  • International flights from/to from: Bangkok, Hanoi, Chiang Mai and Siem Reap
  • Domestic flights from/to Vientiane and Pakse
  • By road - 10 hours driver from/to Vientiane

Fast Fact at Laos

  • The People's Democratic Republic of Lao is located in the centre of Indochina, sharing borders with China to the north, Myanmar to the north-west, Thailand to the west, Cambodia to the south, and Vietnam to the east.
  • Laos enjoys a tropical climate with two distinct seasons - the rainy season from the beginning of May to the end of September and dry season from October through to April.
  • Lao language is the national language. Other languages used are French, English, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese.
  • The Kip is the official currency of Laos.
  • The majority of Lao people are Buddhists.
  • When entering a Wat (Temple) or a private home it is customary to remove one's shoes.
  • In traditional homes one sits on low seats or cushions on the floor. Upon entering guests may be served fruit or tea. These gestures of hospitality should not be refused.
  • The head is considered the most sacred part of the body and the soles of the feet the least, one should not touch a person's head nor use one's foot to point at a person or any object.
  • Men and women rarely show affection in public.
  • Women are forbidden to touch a Buddhist monk.
